Monica Fekete Markovich
President, Director & Senior Partner
Monica Fekete Markovich is one the great legal minds of a niche area of federal workers’ compensation defense. As president, director, and senior partner at Markovich Grover, she ardently believes there is a need for a more forward-thinking law firm model; one that fosters performance and growth through innovation. Monica takes particular pride in mentoring associates as they grow into shareholders.
A three-decade veteran of Brown Sims and its predecessor Brown, Sims, Wise, and White, she was a member of the firm’s bench from its inception in 1994 until 2025. In 2006, she was appointed Director of Brown Sims’ multi-state Defense Base Act (DBA) defense practice, which went on to become its largest group.
While her experience includes a broad range of civil litigation topics–from personal injury and bad faith to commercial and maritime–she has chosen to focus on the defense of DBA, Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act (LHWCA), and other “extension” act claims. To that end, her trial history is extensive, having litigated cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas.
Monica was recognized as a “Top Lawyer” six times by Texas Super Lawyers and twice by Houstonia. Though, her accomplishments are not limited to favorable outcomes for clients as she regularly lends her voice via industry presentations, publications, and in-house seminars hosted by employers and their insurance carriers. She also maintains a leadership capacity for the Annual Longshore Conference, a two-day program co-hosted by Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
Other notable commitments include a past presidency with the DOL-Joint Bar Association Board of Directors and tenure on the DOL’s Benefits Review Advisory Board. She has also contributed to a collection of written works on LexisNexis and The Longshore Textbook, Sixth Edition – Lawyers & Judges Publishing Company, Inc. (Chapter 9: “Calculation of the Average Weekly Wage Under the Defense Base Act.”).
Monica earned both her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Texas.
Over a career spanning 30 years, Monica Fekete Markovich has become one of the great legal minds of a niche area of federal workers’ compensation defense.
