Makenzi (McDonald) Smith

Associate Attorney

Makenzi Smith is an associate attorney at Markovich Grover. Makenzi’s practice focuses primarily on the defense of claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the Defense Base Act.

Makenzi earned a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science with Laboratory Emphasis, magna cum laude, from St. Edward’s University and her Doctor of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, from South Texas College of Law. During law school, Makenzi was a Langdell Scholar for Civil Procedure I and a Presidential Fellow. She received CALI Excellence Awards for Federal Income Taxation, Constitutional Law, Evidence, Secured Transactions, Texas Trial and Appellate Procedure, and Advanced Legal Skills.

While defending employers and carriers in Defense Base Act claims, Makenzi has gained experience litigating cases before the Office of Administrative Law Judges, as well as submitting appellate briefs to the Benefits Review Board.

Makenzi is licensed to practice in Texas. She is also a certified mediator.
