Alexandra (Alie) Awar is a senior partner and one of the founders of Markovich Grover. Alie has spent over ten years defending employers and insurance carriers in claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the Defense Base Act. Alie’s trial experience includes representing her clients via both live trial and trial by submission before the Office of Administrative Law Judges. Alie enjoys handling appeals at the Benefits Review Board and in federal court. In addition to her trial skills, Alie is sought after for her history of negotiating streamlined and economical settlements.
Alie earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where she double majored in English and Government. She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law, where she was a member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and the South Texas College of Law Women’s Law Society.
Over the past decade, Alie has guest lectured at numerous legal conventions, including The Willis Tower Watson DBA Symposium, Emerge Diagnostics Seminar, and DBA Day at the Ballpark, as well as hosted training sessions for carriers and third-party adjusters. Alie also co-authored LWHCA Attorney Fee Shifting After Lincoln v. Director, OWCP (Everywhere but the 9th Circuit) alongside Markovich Grover President Monica Markovich.
Alie is admitted to practice law in Texas.
